Tanzania's opposition presidential nominee in the forthcoming General Elections 2025, whose appeal to a high court in Dar es Salaam, against a decision by the country's electoral body to bar him from the presidential election of the two-tier general elections, was upheld by the court on September 11, 2025, has been disqualified one more time. That was reported by some African media on September 16, 2025.

According to the reports, after the appellate court ruled in favour of arguments advanced in Mr Luhaga Mpina's appeal, the electoral body abided with the ruling and registered him as a presidential nominee in the coming elections. However, a couple of days later, on September 15, 2025, the country's attorney general intervened in the matter and disqualified Mr Luhaga Mpina as presidential nominee one more time, reportedly and vaguely citing procedural technicalities.
The second disqualification of Mr Luhaga Mpina as presidential nominee is said to illustrate unwavering and shameless concerted efforts and unwavering determination by the current government of Tanzania hence the ruling party CCM that has been in power for more the 5 decades, to eliminate any meaningful challenge to the incumbent president in the coming general elections that are scheduled for October 29, 2025. It may also indicate the ruling party's distaste and fear of multipartyism, and possibly regressive and myopic contemplation about making the East African Community nation a de facto one-party state.
