BRICS Summit 2026 Ongoing In New Delhi

BRICS Summit 2026 alias 18th BRICS Summit is ongoing in New Delhi, India. The 2-day summit of the bloc that is said to be economic and political counterforce to USA and its allies in the so called West, is scheduled for September 12-13, 2026. The summit's motto is: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.
BRICS Summits are annual meetings of the leaders of the bloc's member countries. In 2026, the leaders' meeting was preceded by the BRICS Business Forum that took place on September 11, 2026, also in New Delhi.
BRICS Summit 2026 is being attended by leaders from 8 of BRICS' 11 member countries. The leaders attending the summit are the following.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India (host)
President Xi Jinping of China
President Vladimir Putin of Russia
President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt
President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran
President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia

The other 3 member countries, namely, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates, are represented at the summit by some senior government officials.
Reportedly, top on BRICS Summit 2026's agenda are, among others, trade, investment, and global conflicts.
BRICS was founded in 2006 under the acronym BRIC that depicted the founding member countries, Brazil, Russia, India, and China. When South Africa joined the bloc as the 5th founding member country in 2010, new acronym BRICS was coined, and the acronym has remained unchanged since then even as the bloc expanded in 2024 from 5 member countries to 10 with admission of Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
In 2025, Indonesia was admitted into BRICS, bringing its member countries to 11.

Constituting 48% of the global population and about 30% of the global GDP, BRICS is, indeed, a force to be reckoned with.
