Don’t Open Your Legs, Open Your Books, South African Minister Tells Female Students

South Africa’s Minister of Health for Limpopo Province, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, has told female secondary school students not to open their legs but instead should open their books. That was reported by some media on January 13, 2022.
The minister reportedly made the utterance to the female students during a visit to a secondary school in the province at the beginning of the new academic year on January 12, 2022. The utterance seems to have come at the end of the minister’s speech at the school, that addressed, among others, the issue of teenage pregnancy in South Africa.
According to the reports, the minister while referring to female students at the school, said and we quote partly as thus.
“…….. Open your books, and close your legs. Don’t open your legs, open your books. Thank you very much”
A bold and probably honest advice to South Africa’s school girls by Dr Phophi Ramathuba. The question is whether the girls will do what she has told them to do, i.e., to ditch sex, in order to avoid pregnancy. To make matters worse, her critics don't even agree with her advice to the girls, with some calling it gender biased and problematic.
