Hakeem Jeffries Braces For US House Speaker Position Amidst Historic African American Wins In US Midterm Elections 2026

Hakeem Jeffries is bracing for the position of Speaker of the US House of Representatives after the Democratic Party to which he belongs, won bigtime in the US Midterm Elections 2026 that were held on November 3, 2026.

According to projections about the elections, the Democratic Party won majority in both chambers of the US Congress, i.e., US House of Representatives alias US House, and US Senate. As of November 5, 2026, the Democratic Party is projected to have won 251 seats of the US House's 435 seats and 55 seats of the US Senate's 100 seats, while their rival the Republican Party took 155 US House seats and 44 US Senate seats. 218 seats and 51 seats are required for majority wins in US House and US Senate respectively.
The new US Congress alias 120th US Congress will convene on January 3, 2027
Mr Hakeem Jeffries is currently the US House minority leader, a position he has held since 2023. However, to become the new US House Speaker, he has to be nominated and elected by the US House's Democratic Party Representatives alias Democrats when the 120th US Congress convenes early next year. According to some US media sources, that is not expected to be a problem for him. As such, he is now set to become the first African American Speaker of the US House.
The Speaker of the US House is a powerful politician, second in the line of presidential succession after the Vice President.
Also, the projected results of the US midterm elections show historic wins by some other African American politicians that include the following.
1) Keisha Lance Bottoms (Democrat) becomes Georgia's first African American Governor, and first African American female Governor in the USA.

2) Byron Donalds (Republican) becomes first African American Republican Governor in the USA, and Florida's first African American Governor.

3) David Crowley (Democrat) becomes Wisconsin's first African American Governor.

4) Aaron Ford (Democrat) becomes Nevada's first African American Governor.

5) Wes Moore (Democrat) becomes Maryland first African American Governor to win re-election.
