Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767 Plane Seized In South Africa
Updated: Oct 27, 2019
An Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767-200 passenger plane has been seized at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, by Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), reported some South African media on October 24, 2019.
ACSA is said to have seized the plane on October 23, 2019, over unpaid landing fees, parking fees, and passenger service charges.
Two months ago, an Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) Airbus 220-300 passenger plane was also seized at the same airport, over a $33 million compensation claim by a retired South African farmer, against the government of Tanzania. Following the seizure of the plane that has now been released, ATCL stopped flying to South Africa. The cancellation of the rather lucrative regional route may be detrimental to ATCL with its fleet of 6 new passenger planes including a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and two Airbus A200-300. A second Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is expected to be delivered on October 26, 2019.
