Zambia's incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema won the presidential election of the country's General Elections 2026 that took place on August 13, 2026. That was declared by the Electoral Commission of Zambia and reported by various African media on August 18, 2026.

President Hakainde Hichilema is said to have won the presidential election with 60.49% of the vote, while the main opposition Presidential Nominee Brian Mundubile took home 37.87% of the vote. The win implies a second and last term in office for the incumbent president.
However, Mr Brian Mundubile is said to have so far refused to concede defeat, observing that his political party NRPUP does not believe the announced presidential results are accurate. He is said to have exemplified the alleged inaccuracy of the results as thus.
Irregularities relating to ballot security, transportation, and handling of electoral materials
Discrepancies between votes recorded at polling stations and figures subsequently announced
As such, Mr Brian Mundubile is said to have vowed legal challenge against the presidential election results.
And indeed he can do that, because in Zambia, presidential election results can be legally challenged.
According to the country's Constitution, petition challenging presidential election results should be filed before the Constitutional Court within 7 days from the date the results were declared by the Electoral Commission of Zambia. The petition shall be heard within 14 days of the filing of the petition.
