Sudan's Omar al-Bashir Ousted By Military

After months of protests calling for Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir to go, the military on April 11, 2019 took over control of the country, reported some media. As such, the embattled president is expected to step down asap. The military had announced prior to the take over, it was going to release a crucial statement regarding the situation in the country.

Omar al-Bashir took over power in a bloodless military coup in 1989, and has ruled Sudan since then.

In 2010 he was indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for genocide against ethnic African population in the country's Darfur region. However, so far he has managed to escape arrest during official trips abroad, due to some African and Arabic countries refusal to cooperate with the ICC for various reasons. Whether that will prevail after he steps down can not be established at this juncture.
