DRC's Ruling Coalition Wins Parliamentary Elections

Africauptodate

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)'s ruling coalition has won the parliamentary elections of the country's recently held general elections, reported some media on January 12, 2019.

The victory implies the ruling coalition of the incumbent President Joseph Kabila will have a majority in parliament in the forthcoming new government of opposition leader Felix Tshisekedi. The latter won the presidential election, according to provisional election results released by the country's electoral commission on January 12, 2019, while the presidential candidate of the ruling coalition took the third place. With a majority in parliament, the outgoing ruling coalition would be capable of exerting considerable influence on DRC's policies during the era of the new government.

In the meantime, defeated and runner-up of the presidential election, opposition leader Martin Fayulu who has refused to concede defeat, is said to have began the process of filing a legal challenge to the presidential election results, to the country's Constitutional Court.
