Flash floods have killed at least 26 people in Nairobi, Kenya, with at least 16 more killed in other parts of the country. That was reported by some Kenyan media on March 9, 2026.

The floods are said to have been caused by days of heavy rainfall in the country that began last month. In Nairobi, the floods are said to have also caused the following.
Displacement of over 50 000 people
Disruption of flights at the city's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
Power outages in some affected areas of the city, and
Closure of some roads
Reportedly, the flash floods and their deleterious effects in Nairobi have been blamed on poor city planning, inadequate stormwater drainage systems, and poor management of existing old style sewage systems that also serve as stormwater drainage systems.
