Somaliland on February 25, 2026, announced that it has appointed its ambassador to Israel. That was reported by Somaliland media. The new ambassador, namely Dr Mohamed Hagi, becomes Somaliland's first ambassador to another country.

At the same time, Israel is said to have announced that it has formally accepted Somaliland's new ambassador to the country.
Somaliland's appointment of the new ambassador to Israel comes after the latter and the former signed an agreement establishing full diplomatic relations, on December 26, 2025, hence making Israel the first country in the world to recognise Somaliland as a sovereign state.
In a broader context, the appointment of the first ambassador is said to present a huge political milestone for the breakaway region that has been seeking international recognition since it declared independence from Somalia after the latter descended into clan-led civil war and fragmented following the fall of the then leader Siad Barre in 1991.
Whether more countries of the world will emulate Israel and recognise Somaliland as a sovereign state, only time will tell.

Recognizing Somaliland diplomatically is a bold step that could inspire other nations to reconsider their stance on sovereignty and self-determination. https://batoto.website/genre/slice-of-life
