Kidnapped Tanzanian Dewji Miraculously Returns Home
Tanzania's entrepreneur and philanthropist Mohammed Dewji who was recently kidnapped at gunpoint at a luxury hotel in Dar es Salaam has returned home safe and sound. His return was announced by himself on Twitter on the early hours of October 20, 2018.
In the announcement, Mr Dewji neither gave details about his captivity nor whether he was rescued, escaped on his own, or voluntarily released by his captors. Other local sources, however, say he was dumped in a field by his captors. Earlier during the week, his family offered about $0.5 million to anyone with information that could have led to his release.
Born in Singida region, Mohammed Dewji is Tanzania's sole billionaire with an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion as of 2018 by Forbes. His vast business ventures through his company Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (MeTL) that extend to 11 countries in East and Central Africa with about 28 000 employees, is said to contribute 3.5% to Tanzania's GDP.
