Tanzania's High Court Stops Enforcement Of Controversial Online Content Regulations

On May 4, 2018, Tanzania's High Court stopped the country's government from beginning enforcing its controversial online content regulations. The latter were officially announced by the government in March 2018, and were expected to come into effect on May 5, 2018.

According to some sources in Tanzania, the high court's decision followed submissions made to the court by some six institutions, challenging the regulations for contravening: freedom of expression, rights to be heard, and rights to privacy.

Tanzania's government is reportedly becoming increasingly intolerant to views different from that of its own, despite the country been constitutionally a multi-party democracy.
