Kenyatta Wins Kenya's Disputed General Elections 2017 Amidst Violent Protests

Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC, announced on late August 11, 2017, that incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta is the winner of the presidential poll of the country's general elections that were held on August 8, 2017. According to the announcement, Kenyatta won with 54% of the vote. This stance of the main opposition has left the country divided, with supporters of Kenyatta celebrating, while those of Odinga have resorted to violent protests particularly in Kisumu and Nairobi. Two people are reported to have been killed in clashes between protesters and police since the IEBC made the announcement. In the country's disputed 2007 general elections , 1100 people lost their lives and 350 000 were forced to flee their homes because of post-election violence.
