Talks About Somalia Two States System Held In Djibouti
Officials of the government of Somalia and the breakaway state of Somaliland on June 14, 2020 met in Djibouti, to discuss a call by Somaliland for establishment of a two state system in the Eastern African country, while at the same time reiterating the state’s right to independence. That was reported by some media on June 15, 2020.
According to the reports, the meeting was attended by Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Somaliland Leader Muse Bihi Abdi, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and chaired by host President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti.
Somaliland declared independence in 1991. It is located on the northern part of the country, and reportedly enjoying peace unlike the rest of Somalia that has been devastated by persistent bloody attacks from the militant groups especially Islamist terrorist group Al Shabaab.
