Dangote Industries Limited Announces $17 Billion Mega Refinery Project In Kenya

Dangote Industries Limited alias Dangote Group on July 6, 2026, announced that it will build a $17 billion mega refinery in Kenya. That was reported by some African media on July 7, 2026. The announcement comes after months of speculations about the country for location of the project.

According to the reports, the new crude oil refinery will be built on the Lamu archipelago that is located along the northern part of Kenya's Indian Ocean coast.

Also, the archipelago boasts a huge modern port that has been under construction for quite a while and partly operating now. The port is expected to be linked with neighboring countries of Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and more, by a system of modern highways and railway lines.

Reportedly, the new refinery will have a crude oil refining capacity of 700 000 barrel-per-day (bpd), and its construction is expected to take 30 months to complete. Preliminary groundwork for the construction is said to have already began.

Dangote Group's refinery project in Kenya is said to be part of the firm's massive $46 billion investment programme in Africa that entails construction of crude oil refineries, cement factories, and fertilizer factories.

Dangote Group is already operating a mammoth crude oil refinery in Nigeria, that has a 1.4 million bpd refining capacity.
