Mozambique 2019 General Elections Begins
People of Mozambique on October 15, 2019 went to polling stations to cast their votes in the country's 2019 general elections. Frelimo that has been the ruling party since the country gained independence from Portuguese colonial rule in 1975, is battling it out against its main rival Renamo.
Despite having been once an armed rebel group that fought against government forces in a bloody civil war between 1975 to 1992, Renamo is said to be a political party to reckon with in these elections, and expected to win in up to 5 of the country's 10 provinces. If that happens, it will imply dramatic change at Mozambique's political scene.
