Elite troops have joined ongoing youth-led anti-government protests in Madagascar, reported some media on October 12, 2025.
According to the reports, the troops belonging to the elite unit called CAPSAT of Madagascar's military, are now urging troops from other units of the military to do the same and support the protests.

The youth-led anti-government protests that began in the capital Antananarivo on September 25, 2025, were triggered by water and electricity shortages. However, as time went by, the protests escalated dramatically as the young protesters raised some other issues pertaining to governance, and demanded the country's President Andry Rajoelina to go, as well as overhaul of the entire political system.
The protests are said to be coordinated by an online leaderless youth group called Gen Z Madagascar similar to the Gen Z movements that delivered devastating anti-government protests in Kenya and Nepal recently.
