265 Killed As Floods And Mudslides Devastate East Africa
Updated: Jun 30, 2020
At least 265 have been killed in East Africa over the past couple of days as floods and mudslides resulting from torrential rain devastate the region, reported some media on May 8, 2020. Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, and Uganda are said to be worst hit.
In Kenya, about 200 people have been killed by floods and mudslides so far, while in Rwanda at least 65 people have died after floods swept away houses including farm buildings, roads, and bridges, the reports say.
At the same time, Lake Victoria water level is said to have rose considerably leading to severe flooding in surrounding settlements particularly in Uganda and Kenya.
According to weather forecasts, the torrential rainfall in East Africa could continue the rest of May.
