Attempted Coup In Gabon Thwarted

There has been an attempted military coup in Gabon, reported some media on January 7, 2019.

Some young army officers are said to have been behind the coup. They declared the take over of the government in state radio, urging the people of Gabon to rise and join them. However, troops loyal to the government thwarted the coup, and reportedly arresting the plotters.

The attempted coup occurred when the country's president Ali Bongo is in Morocco undergoing medical treatment following a heart attack he suffered in October 2018 while on an official visit in Saudi Arabia. He has, therefore, been out of the country for more than two months now.

The Bongo clan has ruled Gabon for half a century!
