Zimbabwe's Constitutional Court Upholds Presidential Election Results

On August 24, 2018, Zimbabwe's Constitutional Court ruled against an appeal by the country's main opposition MDC Alliance of the results of the presidential election held on July 30, 2018, of which the incumbent president Emmerson Mnangagwa was announced the winner by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

In their appeal, MDC Alliance requested the court to annul the results of the presidential election claiming that the electoral process was marred by irregularities that included fraud. However, the Constitutional Court argued the opposition could not provide sufficient evidence in support of their claim.

The court verdict confirms Mr Mnangagwa as the winner of the presidential election hence the next president of Zimbabwe. He will be sworn in on August 26, 2018.
