No Justice For Murdered Akwilina Akwilini As Suspected Police Officers Are Discharged

Arrested police officers suspected for shooting dead an innocent 21 year old college student Akwilina Akwilini on February 16, 2018, during a peaceful demonstration in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, by the main opposition party Chadema, have been discharged. That was reported by Tanzania media on July 25, 2018.

According to the reports, the murder case has been closed by Dar es Salaam regional police due to what they claim to be lack of evidence. Paradoxically, the police are now said to blame the opposition for the murder.

The closure of the murder case, that obviously portrays police inefficiency or perhaps deliberate reluctance in investigating politically motivated killings or savage attacks, is not new in Tanzania these days. For instance, in 2017, a prominent opposition lawmaker Tundu Lissu was shot multiple times and severely wounded on broad day light in an open street in the capital Dodoma. So far, no one has been arrested by police for the barbaric attack.
