Julius Maada Bio Wins Sierra Leone's Presidential Election

Julius Maada Bio won the country's run-off presidential election held on March 28, 2018. He won by a narrow margin of about 52% of the votes, and is reported to have been sworn in very quickly as new president in a hotel in Freetown after the results of the ballot were declared on April 4, 2018.
The loser, Samura Kamara is, however, said to have rejected the credibility of the results of the election, citing irregularities and conspiracy. He indicated he will challenge the outcome in court.
The new president is an army brigadier, former military ruler of Sierra Leone, and the leader of the now ruling party Sierra Leone People's Party, SLPP.
