Kenyans Of Indo-Pakistani Origin Declared Kenya's 44th Tribe


Kenya got its 44th tribe after president Uhuru Kenyatta issued a formal recognition of Kenyans of Indo-Pakistani ancestry as a tribe, on July 22, 2017. Kenya's Indo-Pakistani community also referred to generally as the Asian community, and now the Asian tribe, consists of 46 000 people, according to the country's 2009 census. They are mainly descendants of Indians and Pakistanis who were brought to Kenya by the British during the British colonial era, to contribute to the construction of the first railway line between Mombasa and Uganda.
