The US Attorney General (AG) William Barr on November 10, 2020 instructed federal prosecutors to probe into voter fraud allegations pertaining to the country’s presidential election held on November 3, 2020. That was reported by various media.
A few days ago, several media companies projected presidential nominee Joe Biden as the winner of the US presidential election 2020 hence next president of USA. Mr Biden applauded the projection and immediately delivered his victory speech from his home city of Wilmington, Delaware, amid congratulation messages from several foreign leaders that notably excluded those of Russia, China, Mexico, and Brazil.
On his part, the incumbent President Donald Trump dismissed the projected outcomes of the presidential election and refused to concede defeat citing voter fraud hence election that was neither free nor fair. He promised legal action against the alleged voter fraud, that was scheduled to begin on November 9, 2020. The decision by the AG could therefore be seen as the beginning of what President Trump was talking about.
Refusal to accept Biden as winner of the presidential election has also been expressed by most of the Republican party including the Republican National Committee, and the US Senate majority leader who is a Republican, among others.
Also, the General Services Administration (GSA) has yet to certify the outcome of the presidential election hence making any victory claims premature in strict legal terms. The AG is said to have observed that the voter fraud allegations must be completed before certification of the outcome of the election by the General Services Administration (GSA). Without GSA certification of the election outcome, Biden cannot have access to federal financial resources, about $10 million for covering costs of transition process to the White House.
All in all, the Democrats are reportedly currently crying wolf about what is going on, with some of them said to perceive the situation as deliberate delay and unjustifiable reluctance by Republicans to accept what they believe is clear presidential election victory by Biden. Whether that is true or not will now have to be proven by the ongoing investigation into the election voter fraud claims by the Republicans.
Notwithstanding, it is important that the Democrats remember that what they are experiencing right now is very similar to what they did when President Trump won the 2016 presidential election. Although they conceded defeat promptly because of lack of any election irregularities, they, however, launched attacks on President Trump from day one of the commencement of his mandate period, without giving him any time whatsoever to show what he is made of politically, and continued doing that until November 3, 2020.
