Thailand's Youngest PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra Sworn In
Paetongtarn Shinawatra was sworn in as Thailand's new prime minister (PM) on August 18, 2024 (local time), reported some Asian media.
She was elected new PM by the members of the country's parliament on August 16, 2024 (local time). Her election came after recently elected PM Srettha Thavisin was fired by a top court there.
At 37, Paetongtarn Shinawatra becomes Thailand's youngest PM. She also becomes the country's second female PM.
Paetongtarn Shinawatra who belongs to the Pheu Thai Party, is the daughter of ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra and niece of ex-PM Yingluck Shinawatra. Her accession to power could therefore be seen as a consolidation of what has been described in some quarters as the Shinawatra political dynasty.
