Government of Tanzania on November 10, 2021, announced it will build large and medium size dams in various parts of the country. That was reported by The East African newspaper on November 12, 2021.

According to the report, the planned building of dams is a climate change mitigation measure. The government there reportedly added that it was also planning to extract water from the country’s big lakes and rivers.

A great move by the government of Tanzania, especially if the planned dams will involve capturing and storing water from heavy downpours caused by climate change, that could then be used for various purposes like irrigation, human water supply, fishing, and leisure including tourism, among others, during dry seasons. That is because, harnessing rainwater in tropical countries always makes great economic sense, whether there is climate change or not. Looked at in this way, even small size dams could be useful!
