South Sudan Peace Deal Signed In Khartoum

A peace deal aimed at bringing to an end South Sudan's four year bloody conflict has been signed in Khartoum in neighboring Sudan, reported South Sudan's media on August 5, 2018.

Signatories of the deal were President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Riek Machar, a representative for former political detainees, as well as representatives for other opposition factions.

Under the peace deal, Dr Riek Machar will be reinstated as South Sudan's 1st vice president. There will also be 4 other vice presidents, 35 ministries, and 550 members of parliament.

Previous peace deals in South Sudan have been short-lived!
