There has been a military coup in Guinea-Bissau, reported some media. The military there is said to have announced on November 26, 2025, that they have taken control of the whole country.

The military takeover comes just days after the country's General Elections 2025 that were held on November 23, 2025, and that have been described in some quarters as chaotic.
According to the reports, the new military junta has arrested the incumbent President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, closed the airspace and borders, and nullified the held general elections.
In the general elections that entailed presidential and parliamentary elections, the incumbent President Umaro Sissoco Embalo's main rival in the presidential poll was opposition presidential nominee Fernando Dias. The former was seeking a second term in office. Interestingly, both presidential nominees are said to have had declared themselves winners of the poll at the time of the military coup.
