Qatar Reforms Its Controversial Labor Legislation

Qatar has reformed its controversial labor legislation that had been lambasted worldwide for. among others, allowing exploitation of foreign workers by employers as well as violation of foreign workers’ right for choice of employers. That was reported by some media on August 30, 2020.

The labor reforms are said to include introduction of new monthly minimum wage applicable to all workers irrespective of nationality and type of work. Also, foreign workers will now be able to change employers as they wish.

Qatar’s labor force comprises mainly of foreign workers. The latter are from Pakistan, India, The Philippines, Kenya, and Uganda, among many other countries.
