British Home Secretary Suella Braverman Fired

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Rest Of The World November 13, 2023

British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been fired, reported some media.

According to the reports, Ms Suella Braverman was fired in a cabinet reshuffle by the country's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on November 13, 2023. Her firing follows a recent harsh criticism she unleashed on the country's police, that is said to be related to pro-Palestine demonstrations.

Ms Braverman is said to be a rather controversial politician.

For instance, she is said to have been the architect of the unpopular business-like migration deal between Britain and Rwanda, by which Britain will send asylum seekers to Rwanda at an agreed sum of money from the former to the latter. However, although Rwanda is said to have already put in place the necessary facilities for asylum seekers and received £140 million from Britain as part of the cash agreed under the deal, no asylum seeker has yet been sent to the East African nation due to legal obstacles in Britain.

Also, recently Ms Braverman made headlines globally after she lambasted the homeless who sleep rough in streets, describing homelessness as a lifestyle choice. She then hinted her plan to ban charities from offering tents to homeless people.

Suella Braverman has been replaced by Foreign Secretary James Cleverley, while former PM Lord David Cameron becomes the new Foreign Secretary.

Interestingly, Lord Cameron joins PM Sunak's government, after his previous government's signature development project, a prestigious high speed railway network from London to Manchester and Leeds via Birmingham, was recently revised by PM Sunak. The latter while supporting completion of phase 1 of the project, i.e., London to Birmingham stretch of the planned network, cancelled remaining phases 2 and 3, i.e., the stretches covering Birmingham to Manchester, and Birmingham to Leeds via Sheffield.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, some critics of the current government there, say the reshuffle of cabinet and firing of Ms Braverman by PM Sunak show increasing turbulence, polarization, and confusion within the ruling Conservative Party.
