BDP Wins Botswana General Elections 2019 With Meagre Majority So Far

Botswana's ruling party Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has won the country's closely contested general elections 2019 held on October 23, 2019, with a meagre majority so far. The results of the elections were announced by Botswana's chief justice on October 25, 2019.

With votes from 73% of all constituencies counted at the time of the announcement, BDP had won 29 seats in the National Assembly, the minimum number of parliamentary seats required for victory of a general election in Botswana. That implies a meagre majority in the assembly of only one seat for the party. However, that may change if it wins more seats in the remaining 27% of voting districts.

Also, the chief justice declared the leader of BDP and incumbent president Mokweetsi Masisi next president of Botswana.
