Malawi's incumbent president Peter Mutharika won the presidential election of the country's general elections held on May 21, 2019. That was announced by Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on May 27, 2019.
Dr Peter Mutharika won the election with a meagre margin, taking 38.5% of the vote, while his rival on the second place Lazarus Chakwera took 35.4% of the vote.
The announcement of the results was delayed after Lazarus Chakwera requested the country's high court to do so, over alleged electoral fraud in some parts of the country. The court issued an injunction to that effect, but lifted it on May 27, 2019.
