About 6.8 million voters in Malawi on May 21, 2019 went to polling stations to elect a president, members of parliament, and local government councilors, in the country's 2019 general elections. 50% of the voters are said to be under the age of 34.
Incumbent president Peter Mutharika who is seeking a second term in office is said to be facing formidable challenge from former vice president Saulos Chilima, and former Christian preacher Lazarus Chakwera.
Top election issues include unemployment and corruption.
