Egypt Inaugurates World's Widest Bridge
Egypt on May 15, 2019 inaugurated a 12 lane suspension bridge in Cairo, over the Nile, reported some media.
The inaugurated bridge is phase one of a huge suspension bridge project called Rod al-Farag Axis Bridge that will span 17.2 kilometers when completed. The bridge crosses the Nile north of downtown Cairo and connects to an expressway on the eastern side of the city. It is aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Cairo.
With a width of 64.8 meters the inaugurated bridge becomes the widest suspension bridge in the world, according to Guinness Book of World Records. It was entirely built by a local construction firm called Arab Contractors.
