After months of meticulous preparations, Kenya Airways will eventually make its inaugural direct flight from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to New York City's JFK International Airport on October 28, 2018. On board the maiden flight that will be captained by one of Africa's most famous female captains, Ms Irene Koki, will be the country's president, Uhuru Kenyatta, reported Kenyan media in early July 2018.
Kenya Airways will operate a 234 seat state-of-the-art Boeing 787-8 for the new Nairobi-NYC-Nairobi route. Flight duration is expected to be 14 and 15 hours for the daily westbound and eastbound flights respectively.
Kenya becomes the first country in East Africa to operate direct flights to the USA, and the ninth in Africa, joining South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde, and Morocco.
