Africauptodate
President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria will step down before his current term in office expires on April 28, 2019, reported some media on April 1, 2019. The resignation announcement is said to have been made by the president's office.
President Bouteflika who has been in power for two decades, will be stepping down after months of defiance against calls by protesters nationwide, for him to go. The protesters are said to have been discontented with the 82 year old president because of, among others, corruption and inefficiency of his government, as well as alleged ill-health.
