Tanzania Has Breached Some International Accords On Human Rights. British Lawyers Say
The East African reported on September 26, 2017, that some prominent British lawyers from the UK Law Society, the Bar Council, and the Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC), have written a letter to the government of Tanzania, expressing their concerns about what they believe are serious violations by the government, of human rights as stipulated in some international accords. The six page letter reported to have been e-mailed the country's state house on September 26, 2017, cites specific actions by the government that support the lawyers' concerns, including numerous arrests of one of the government's major critics the recently shot lawmaker Tundu Lissu; and intimidation and harassment of lawyers operating in the country. In the letter, the British lawyers also urge the government of Tanzania to permit an independent inquiry into the barbaric shooting of Tundu Lissu.
