Sweden’s new law for combating the coronavirus pandemic alias the pandemic law came into effect on January 10, 2021. The law that was enacted on January 8, 2021 is a temporary law, valid until September 30, 2021.

The law tightens Sweden’s coronavirus restrictions and makes them legally enforceable. With the new law, authorities can, for example, closedown shops, gyms, and public transport, when deemed necessary. Those violating the law may be fined. Hitherto the new law, coronavirus restrictions were largely in the form of recommendations.

Sweden is among a handful of countries in the world that have never had lockdown since the coronavirus pandemic began in early 2020.
