Burundi's Nkurunziza Reiterates Not To Run For 4th Term

President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi on December 26, 2019 said he will not run for a fourth term in the country's presidential election in 2020. That was reported by some media. This is the second time the president has said that. The first time was last year.

President Pierre Nkurunziza was re-elected for a third term in a highly controversial presidential election in 2015.

Even earlier this month, President Paul Kagame of neighboring Rwanda, also said he may not run for another term when his current third term expires in 2024. President Kagame who has been on the throne since 2000 reportedly made the utterance at a forum in Doha, Qartar.
