Angola Has Election Observation Deals With AU And SADC Only, Angola Tells EU


As Angola prepares for its forthcoming general elections on August 23, 2017, the country's state media reported on July 17, 2017 that its foreign minister has dismissed conditions demanded by an EU election observer mission to have unfettered access to polling stations across the country on the election day. The minister is reported to have reminded the Europeans that, and we quote from Journal de Angola: "So this is Africa. And we do not expect anyone to impose on us their means of observing elections or to give lectures" The minister continued and emphasized that the only organizations Angola has election observation deals with, were the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
