AU And SADC Endorse DRC General Elections
Election observers from the African Union (AU) and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) have endorsed the recently held presidential and parliamentary elections in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), reported various media on January 2, 2019.
On the one hand, AU observers are reported to have said despite some logistical issues, overall, the elections were peaceful hence successful.
On the other hand, SADC observers in endorsing the elections, said the elections were managed relatively well. They added, under the prevailing circumstances in DRC, the general elections allowed majority of the country's citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Non-African election observers were not invited during the elections.
Official results of the elections are expected on January 6, 2019.
