On his first state-of-the-nation speech to the parliament on November 5, 2018, President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana unleashed a merciless fierce attack on his predecessor Ian Khama, reported some African media on November 6, 2018.

According to the reports, President Masisi slammed the former president with whom he served as vice president, for refusing to cooperate in ensuring smooth transition from the previous administration to the current one. Mr Masisi is said to have mentioned without specification that retirement benefits and pension are the main causes for the former president's reluctance to cooperate with his administration.

Botswana is one of Africa's richest nations in terms of GDP per capita, with an economy that relies mainly on export of diamonds and beef, as well a booming tourism sector.
