Magufuli Orders Prison Staff To Kick Lazy Prisoners

President John Magufuli of Tanzania has ordered the country's prison staff to make prisoners work day and night, and lazy prisoners to be kicked, reported various local and international media sources on July 15, 2018.

President Magufuli is said to have delivered the order on July 14, 2018, during inauguration of a new chief of prisons. He also ordered an end to conjugal visits to prisoners. Furthermore and paradoxically, he emphasized underemployment of prisoners encouraged drug abuse and homosexuality.

Results of a recent opinion poll showed a dramatic plummeting of President Magufuli's popularity rating by 41% since he came to power, from 96% in 2016 to 55% in 2018.
