Tanzania’s Main Opposition Leader Appears In Court Charged With Terrorism Offenses

Tanzania’s main opposition leader Freeman Mbowe appeared in a magistrate court in Dar es Salaam on the afternoon of July 26, 2021, where he was charged with, among others, two alleged terrorism offenses, namely conspiring and financing terrorism acts. That was reported by some Tanzanian media.


According to the reports, Mr Mbowe was charged in absence of his attorney hence without legal representation. After first mention of the case, Mr Mbowe was remanded in custody until August 5, 2021 when the case will be mentioned one more time before subsequently been transferred to the High Court for hearing.
