Sudan's Transitional Government Inaugurated As Leader Of Sovereign Council Is Sworn In



Sudan's transitional government was inaugurated on August 21, 2019, with Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan sworn in as leader of the ruling civilian-military body called Sovereign Council. That was reported by some media.


The Sovereign Council consists of 11 members of which 6 are civilians and 5 are from the military. It is envisaged to rule Sudan for about 36 months until free and fair elections are held in 2022. General Burhan will lead the council for 21 months after which time a civilian will take over for the rest of the transition period.
