M23 To Pull Out Of DRC’s North Kivu Province

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)’s notorious rebel group M23 has agreed to pull out of all the areas it occupies in the country’s North Kivu Province. That was reported by some East African media on January 13, 2023.

According to the reports, M23 made the announcement during a meeting with the East African Community Peace Facilitator, ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, in the coastal city of Mombasa on January 12, 2023.

Reportedly, the pullout announcement comes as M23s opts for resolution of its conflict with the government of DRC through dialogue hence peacefully. Already M23 is said to have pulled out of two towns it occupied in the North Kivu Province, namely Kibumba and Rumangabo. The towns are now under the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF).

If M23 adheres to its pullout announcement, that would imply massive step towards peace and prosperity in the natural assets rich North Kivu Province and DRC at large. That could also be economically beneficial to the entire East African Community through boosting flow of goods, investments, and people including tourists, within the regional bloc.
