Hyundai Rotem To Deliver Electric Trains To Tanzania

Hyundai Rotem and Tanzania Railways Corporation have signed a $295.65 million deal by which the former will deliver electric trains to the latter, that will operate along a 546 km stretch covered by phases 1 & 2 of Tanzania’s ambitious 1450 km electrified standard gauge railway project that is now under implementation at a cost of about $7.5 billion. That was reported by some media on July 7, 2021.


More specifically, by the deal Hyundai Rotem will deliver to Tanzania Railways Corporation 80 train wagons alias train cars probably as components of electrical multiple units (EMUs) and 17 electric locomotives worth $190.12 million and $105.53 million respectively, by 2024, that will operate between Dar es Salaam and Makutopora in Singida Region.
