Algeria's Former PM Tebboune Wins Presidential Election Amidst Fresh Protests

Updated: Dec 15, 2019

Algeria's former prime minister (PM) Abdelmadjid Tebboune (74) has won the country's presidential election held on December 12, 2019, amidst fresh mass protests in the capital Algiers. That was reported by various media on December 14, 2019.

The protesters are expressing their distaste for the former PM who served under the ousted former president Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The latter resigned in early April 2019 after succumbing to mass street protests. More specifically, the protesters see the former loyalist of Bouteflika as part and parcel of the elite political establishment they want dismantled once and for all, suggest some of the reports.
