Three Areas Excluded From DRC General Elections

People in three areas will not be able to participate in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) general elections due to be held on December 30, 2018. Instead, voters in the areas, namely Beni and Butembo as well as Yumbi in eastern and western parts respectively, will be able to cast their votes in March 2019. That was announced by the country's electoral commission on December 26, 2018. The commission cites Ebola outbreak and security concerns in the three areas as reasons for its decision.

Paradoxically, voting in the three areas will take place after official declaration of the elections results, expected in mid January 2019.
