South African Government Accused Of Calling Land Owners Of European Ancestry Murderers

The government of South Africa, and the ruling party ANC in particular, is under fierce attack on the social media for allegedly referring to the country's land owners of European ancestry as murderers. According to various media sources on August 6, 2018, ANC recently tweeted as thus and we quote:

"The biggest mistake we are making is to consult murderers. White people are 9% of the population, they own 79% of land. They never came and consulted us for the land. If they want us to forgive them now, then let us share the land, the mineral resources."

Fair enough in our view! The land in question was looted without consent whatsoever from its rightful owners of African ancestry who want it back, because it is theirs and have the means for doing that now. "Murderers", well, it depends how the reference is viewed, because ANC could have been implied those South African of European ancestry who committed or supported the numerous killings of innocent Africans during the apartheid era.

Notwithstanding, however, ANC has surprisingly deleted the tweet.

The alleged tweet coincides with ANC's planned amendment of South Africa's Constitution to allow public acquisition and redistribution of land owned by South Africans of European ancestry, without compensation. Initially, 139 farms will be subject to public acquisition once the amendment is passed.

More than two decades after the end of apartheid in South Africa, people of European ancestry still own a staggering 79% of the country's arable land. The proposed amendment of the Constitution is therefore likely to be seen by many, especially South Africans of African ancestry, as long overdue and very appropriate political move indeed. People don't buy back what has been stolen from them! They take it back and the thief is prosecuted or forgiven depending on the circumstances. It is simple common sense!
